Made you look. Really I just wanted to take the Sequels argument to the next logical level. How about we see if we can actually agree that perhaps some excellent (very good?) films in the horror genre have in fact been generated in the past, oh, 17 years, and if so, then lets extol their many virtues. Wee.

So that's the challenge. What, if any, 4 star (out of 5) horror features have been created since 1990? You come up with your list and I'll come up with mine. Double wee.

Then maybe we can see how many have been made in this decade or something. You all like to make lists, right? Ya crazy weirdos. So go on, you've got homework to do.

                IMHO....Candyman is a CLASSIC !
                Haute Tension
Nightwatch ( not really scary but still fun ! )
Funny Games ( although I'm dreading the american remake....even though it's by the same director. )
                28 Days Later
                Ringu 2
                The Untold Story: Bunman

I'm sure there are more that I liked?
But this is all I can remember at the moment

Ok, I didn't actually spend time thinking about this, but I am jogging my memory and have IMDB amd Netflix open on my browser as a reference for release dates.

I give the following films 5 stars out of 5, but really that doesn't mean they're perfect, more like they got a 90 or above and scored an "A"...

    -Wolf Creek (2005)
    -Dawn of the Dead (2004)
    -28 Days Later (2002)
    -Final Destination (2000)
    -Ravenous (1999)
    -From Dusk 'til Dawn (1996)
    -Scream (1996)
    -Candyman (1992)

Movies I'd give about 4 stars to: Dog Soldiers, Ginger Snaps, Frankenhooker, The Exorcist 3, Frailty, The Ring, Army of Darkness, The Host, Joyride, Undead, Alien 3, Planet Terror, Slither

My analysis: Wow, I thought there'd be more. Maybe my memory is bad. Or maybe I'm just a horror whore and those 3 star movies suit me just fine. I was pleased w/ Wrong Turn, Final Destination 2, even The Grudge, and dozens others that I recognize are not that good. Yeah, I'm pretty much a whore. So, basically I should not even try to moderate this thread.

Horror is Dead! Long live Horror!

yo, alien 3, now that I think about it, was way better then any or the 5 star movies you listed.

sorry, but seeing charles dance getting eviscerated right in the middle of a romantic moment with a bald Sigorney is an all time classic sci/horror moment.

"this thing is really pissed off!"

      but....the ending...?

        Wait... Alien 3? Wasn't that Fincher's disaster?

As my previous post on the remakes thread would suggest, I am just a "suspension of disbelief" mindless fun movie lover..... I try not to be judgemental, but the reason that movie fell apart for me was the editing in the chase scene.... when they are trying to kill the alien and trap it???

that has to be the worst edited scene in the history of film. I am 100% in that.

think about it.... editing is strictly there for continuity, right? The way Fincher filmed that, you couldn't tell who was who, what was what, where everything was going. Oh my that killed me. Worst editing ever.

Oops, don't know why I did that! Here's my list:

        Dawn of the Dead
        28 days Later
        Ginger Snaps
        Seven
IT (think it was 1990...please correct me if I'm wrong)
        People under the stairs
        Dusk till Dawn
        Candyman

          Dawn of the Dead(2004)
30 Days of Night(the story sucked..but did you see those vampires..scary)
          Salem's Lot
          Evil Dead
Night of the LIving Dead(george romero's classic)
The Grudge( i pick this over the The Ring)
          Exorist

I think horror movie now a days are okay...i think some of them are trying to have that "The Ring" or "The Grudge" theme. It has that eerie and dredgery affect ...It has a story and keeps it exciting and thirsty for more...However sequels..well..hmmm..i don't know, that's my take.

          Cheers all.

actually... super girl yours is there too.

            Ahh... female horror fans.

you know what Cronenberg said about his recent "History of Violence" when asked about the complexity of the sex within the movie.

He said, "Sex goes together like bacon and eggs".

So true... or like a horror double feature and fun lovin' with a horror lovin lady! well done.

Now we need to work on my girlfriend to adore the horror. That is a hard bridge to cross.

not too many people adore horror....my women friends hates them...yet they watch really retarded chick flick and some of them r scary(not that i don't mind them at times)
i think it's the right company you go with to see horror films who is open minded and catch watch anything.
you can't go with someone who hates horror and expect them to love it by end of the movie or change their mind..god knows i tried that...
same result : i get the "noooo..you're not dragging me to your sicks taste in movies again"

              it's okay...

about your gf...good luck...sometime it's a loosing battle unless you compromise, Son :)

Good movies all in all, esp. the Stuart Gordon entries, but the thread subject is great horror made since 1990. It was specifically for old schoolers w/ lists such as yours that the thread was created so I'd be interested to see an update.
