i am sure that I'm not the only one who saw this over the weekend...
i enjoyed it quite a bit...lots of great violence and destruction...some good scares, naturalistic humor, and an unexpected amount of gore
would've liked to see some alternate angles, but obviously would've been a different kind of movie if it weren't done as a single-camera subjective sort o' thing (a la Blair Witch Project) maybe someday, there will be a sequel (direct to video?) that shows more of the city-wide carnage
it felt similar to War of the Worlds, in that it was a personal story during an epic event, but that's where the comparison ends...unlike WotW, this one has some rewatch value...i know that i want to see it again when i'm not seated so close to the screen

Re: Cloverfield?
Wed, January 30, 2008 - 5:14 AMI thought the whole premise was a good idea but they went a little too far in getting across they were using a camcorder. No one in this day and age is that shitty on a camera as the guy was at the start. Once they established that, the movie rolled pretty good, I liked the ending as well. The monster was not that bad when you finally got to see it but didn't compare to The Host or even Dragon Wars. -

Re: Cloverfield?
Wed, January 30, 2008 - 7:18 AMi liked the character design on The Host more as well, but the scale of this one really sets it apart...The Host's monster was much smaller than Cloverfield's...i liked the spider things too...i'm just excited to see such a well-produced monster movie
Dragon Wars had cool looking monsters with fun destruction, but i don't think that it was anywhere near as cool as this film...don't get me wrong, i definitely think that it was worth the watch
another one to check out is Doomsday: The SInking of Japan...no monsters, but great epic apocalyptic thriller (in Japanese!)
