misunderstood the last thread.... so here we go... what moments in film history are branded onto your brain that makes you love horror... that impacted you and taught you the thrill or love...

FOR ME? These are the films that slightly effected me, that were horror and important before I knew horror or important.

Shining saw too young.. and the blood elevator was bad, but the butler with the bear messed me up
Scanners - head explosion. I saw that at age 6 or so.
Creepshow - Ted Danson, our friend from Cheers, getting owned on the beach
Something Wicked this way Comes
Watcher in the Woods - this really, really fucked me up
Friday the 13th Part II
The Day After - messed with my reality versus fiction
My 7th grade Sex ed class that showed herpes pictures
Poltergeist - the face peeling scene
Thriller (Yes, Landis got me.. speaking of Landis) - namely the oil drippy mouth scene
American Werewold in London - the offhanded way they dealt with horror as real... a conversation with a corpse.
Blue Velvet when he finds the ear
Willy Wonka with the chicken head cut off scene
The Thing - the dog scene
Amityville Horror (saw way way too young)
Excorcist (saw bits and pieces by accident for years)

And Chiller Theatre on KTVU as a kid.... saw a lot there.

There was some others.. I am sure I will remember. I am always interested in what sparked my fandom.

  • For me it was the movie "Black Sunday". I was but a youngster when I first saw it (10 or 11), and it starts with a bound woman, with an "S" branded into her skin, and an iron mask, with spikes pointting inwards placed over her face ... then, of course, the executioner drives the mask home with a large mallet, and blood splurting everywhere! I was hooked from that moment on!
  • First off your list is pretty dead bang for me with a few changes

Shining – Heeerrree’s Jonny the anticipation as he hacks the door is fantastic…the butler with the bear I still see the plastic bear face and it gives me chills…most people don’t even remember the scene
Scanners - head explosion also watched this young…whenever I saw some ones veins popping out I looked the other way
Creepshow – millions of roaches need I say more?
Something Wicked this way Comes – hiding in the grate
Poltergeist - the face peeling scene wasn’t bad but the maggots in the meat ahhh damn losing my lunch again
Thriller – ummm…I’ll give you this one
American Werewolf in London – the moors attack scene…come on you’ve been out late walking and heard a strange sound and looked behind you for the next 10 blocks. The best scene the Nazi werewolves in the hospital
Omen – little kids should be shot if they look that creepy
The eye – best opening just love it have to watch it to understand

Non horror but still messed with me
The Day After – this just plain messed with me every day nuclear war fear mongers were pumping the news…aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
Alien – the extending jaw through the head and the initial little bugger jumping on the facemask you just feel helpless
Misery – come on who didn’t wince and feel ankle pain...other than that not to scary

and always sneeking out to the TV for a late night of Creature Feature on channel 2 when I was young no wonder I am a bit off

A lot of the super slasher films didn’t mess with me but I did fall in love with special effects because of them.
    • The films that affected me/scared the crap out of me and made me love Horror movies to this day are:

(The Orginal) Night Of The Living Dead (2 Scenes...one where the half eaten head is at the top of the stair way and the BBQ scene where the gas pump explodes and the couple are incinerated and later the Zombies have a feast.....yeah, by todays horrific bloody standards, it doesn't compare...but as a little kid in the 70-ies? It freaked me out!)

Jaws (Although I never really HAVE considered this as a Horror movie...but a lot of people do...2 Scenes...the one where Roy Scheiders character discovers the head in the boat and when Quint gets eaten by the shark)

Alfred Hitchcocks "The Birds" (The scene where the dead body in the room with it's eyes gouged out and has been savaged by the feathered fiends of the movie was pretty shocking)

(The Original) Carrie (The veryyyyy last scene...the dream scene...where the arm comes out of the ground to grab the girl...Man! As a little kid who saw this movie in the Theater when it came out? It freaked ME and my Sisters Friends and the entire audience too!! LOL!!)

Tales From The Crypt....the really old Hammer Horror version that came out in the 70-ies....(The Human Heart in the Note, was pretty spooky)

John Carpenter's Halloween (The original Michael Myers/Shape and the way he killed people off..pretty spooky!)

Friday The 13th (The last scene in the movie...the dream squence where Jason jumps out of the water and attacks the girl in the canoe)

Creepshow (The cockroach scene was pretty sick!)

Zombie (where the woman is grabbed by the hair and dragged towards the jagged splintered piece of wood that goes towards her Eye!!)

Those are just a few of the movies that come to mind my friends!!
