Just watched it again the other day.
Seriously sick! -

Re: gore galore
Tue, April 24, 2007 - 10:07 PMFIRST: FACT - the following three films are considered the most disturbing of all time.
Salo mid 60's passolini,
August Underground - impossible to find.
Men behind the Sun - late 80's film about Japanese bioweapon testing on humans.
christ that is a gorey gross film.
All my suggestions will be up for scrutiny....
I think, for your purposes, Jackson's Brain Dead / Dead Alive is probably the finest film you could ever hope to show.
Depends if you want Campy like Chud, The Stuff, or real gore like August Underground or Henry.
High Tension was quite surprisingly gory and pretty good.
Cannibal Holocaust from the day
Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer (when they tie up and torture the family on video... the young boys are watching the mom get murdered, etc.... DEAR GOD.. I couldn't imagine that in a theatre!!!!!!!!!!!)
Visitor Q (the necrophilic sex scene was as gross as it was truly depraved)
Suicide Club when the mom chops through her fingers....
Man Bite's Dog with the flute rape
Brain Dead / Dead Alive for the most sickening and stomach churning gore in the history of film... it is a zombie comedy from Peter Jackson years before LOTR.
Audition, Ichi the Killer, Hellraiser 2, Clockwork Orange, the Fly, Bloodsucking Freaks,
For me... the most disturbing is Irreversible.
The most disturbing and violently sad film I have ever watched. Time destroys all things. I am not suggesting you watch the film... but read about it. It is like Memento, the way it is filmed and staged... you are always catching up on the story with the character...
but it is that it is so brutally sad... and just awful. It begins at the end of the film... and I almost had to turn it off as the camera crane and trick shots mixed with the deliberately overwhelming score... it just made me ill.
Great film for real buffs tho. -

Re: gore galore
Tue, April 24, 2007 - 10:18 PMI know it is up for public comment right now, but Oldboy is one of the best films ever made.
Meet the Feebles is whack.
The Wizard of Gore or any of Herschell Gordon Lewis' are incredible (2000 maniacs is *THE* classic)
the *new* hills have eyes is FUCKED UP.
bad taste... requiem for a dream had some creepy.
The Shining!
SCANNERS WITHOUT A DOUBT
the worst video ever... BROKEN!!! The trent Reznor fuck you to his record label... I have never seen anything so disturbing as that last video Gave Up...
WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING.
www.youtube.com/watch
worst thing you will EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER SEE
it is not a real snuff film... but I warned you. -

Re: gore galore
Thu, August 2, 2007 - 12:23 AMinteresting choices overall, but i am disagree with Old boy. I prefer Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance from the same director. It's just not too gory.
Man behind the sun, yes.
for my submission;
Naked lunch
The Devil's Reject (simply because it just look so damn filthy)
Mermaid in a manhole
The beyond
Day of the dead
Black Sun: The Nanking Massacre
Aftermath

thanks i loved it.

this is going to be a long response...
Thu, April 26, 2007 - 12:47 PMthanks for the suggestions.
we actually played cannibal holocaust this series! so far it's been the most well attended one too....this series. last series i think it was monster squad.
we're trying to get dead-alive (braindead) but we're trying to get the uncut version. which (i guess) is harder to find. but the roxie played it like 4 years ago or something maybe 5? and the Bridge played it a while ago too (i'm not sure if it was the uncut version though) so yeah. wish us luck!
I think a mix of campy and gorey is good.
High Tension WAS good, but too recent i think. i would rather play something like Funny Games (not gorey at all, but hey, it was SO GOOD! and Michel Hanake is making a re-make of it (wierd). Wierd because, he's re-making his own film, and he shouldn't have to just for American audiences. It'll be interesting to see. (Nicholas Cage as OldBoy though? i'll never get over that...i really hope it doesn't happen....)
I haven't seen Henry (i'll check it out, oh! maybe tomorrow)
Visitor Q is a good movie, we tried playing Ichi The Killer once (at the Lumiere, not the clay) and not many people showed up. maybe because it was foreign and people don't want to read subtitles late at night? Although, i really REALLY want to show Wild Zero and have an in-theatre drinking game going.
same for Suicide Club and Audition (subtitle thing)
I STILL haven't seen Man Bites Dog!!! (>_<) I've looked for it at Le Video but i can't find it because it's always rented out (I think) or I'm just looking in the wrong place (this is the more likely answer)
I would love to show A Clockwork Orange! It's a staple midnight staple, but it's so good! maye we'll do it! i'll throw the title in the pile. we showed it at the Aquarius a couple years back and we set up a milk bar, it was pretty fun*
I'm not sure about the Fly. we tried to get Videodrome and the only Cronenburg movie they (our film department) could get for us was Naked Lunch ( i think, i'll have to double check on that) and i think it'd be cool if we showed Dead Ringers but i don't know if anyone would come...
i'll definately check out the other movies that you listed and i really appreciate the help! also i'm about to watch the beyond, do you have any thoughts?
-

Re: this is going to be a long response...
Thu, May 10, 2007 - 4:06 PMThe Beyond is awesome and I suggest you play it at the midnight series. Other gory flicks from Lucio Fulci would be great, especially City of the Living Dead and House by the Cemetary.
(Argento) Suspiria, Phenomena, Deep Red
Battle Royale would be awesome to watch in a theater!
The Manson Family.
of course Ichi the Killer, but that was already mentioned.
And Dead-Alive/Braindead would be the clincher. I actually saw it when it first came out in the theater. What a memorable night that was!

Ichi Prequels
Fri, July 20, 2007 - 11:45 AMthere are two Ichi prequels...Ichi: Episode 0, which was the anime mentioned below, and Ichi-1, the live action DTV prequel.
Episode 0 is a pretty cool half-hour anime that looks similar to Fist of the North Star. Ichi-1 is HORRIBLE...it's supposedly the origin story, but stars the same actor who played Ichi in the first film...the problem is that actor is years older, and the character is supposed to be much younger. Not really worth hunting down, but worth a look if you can catch it for free.
Don't know if anyone's mentioned some of these Zombie 'classics' from around the world, but here's a few worth checking out for tons o' gore:
Evil
Plaga Zombie
Junk
Versus
Stacy
Body Melt
City of Rott (animated, but fun) -

BIO ZOMBIE!!!
A japanese? Chinese? film like Shaun of the Dead, but years earlier. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Ichi Prequels
Thu, July 26, 2007 - 4:08 PMThe studio that owns this keeps talking about a deluxe treatment for BioZombie, but i don't know if we'll ever see it...They are notoriously bad at coming through with special editions of anything that wasn't a HUGE seller. The only version available on domestic DVD is cut up quite a bit...The original version is way more fun, and can sometimes be found as a bootleg in the states. Either version has the same great setting, and some OK characters, but the gore factor was higher before it was cut back for release.
It's definitely a comic take on Zombies, but nowhere near as clever as Shaun of the Dead, IMO...I'd put it closer to Evil for comparison's sake.
I'm pretty sure BioZombie is originally from Hong Kong...I remember it being billed as "Hong Kong's answer to Dawn of the Dead", but I've been wrong before.

Thu, July 26, 2007 - 6:30 PMhahah, I love Bio Zombie.
It starts off cheesy as hell but in the end gets into some really heartfelt points. -

Re: Ichi Prequels
Tue, July 31, 2007 - 3:14 PMdo you know what came out a couple of years ago that was sort of a zombie movie made by the same guy who made battlefield baseball??
if you haven't seen battlefield baseball, you should, it is hilarious. -
-
Re: Ichi Prequels
Tue, July 31, 2007 - 7:52 PMVersus is by the same guy who did Battlefield Baseball, and it is AWESOME!! I love that movie...Any film that combines Yakuza, Samurai, and Zombies has to be great!! Sure, the story is a bit muddled and kind of stupid, but the action is great, and the blood is plentiful. Where else are you going to see a gang of zombie samurai cut down by a lone swordsman?
There's a 3disc version of the film that I would definitely recommend to any horror fans...If you're not big on fun horror and splatter comedy, it may get a bit cheesy for your tastes, but if you liked Battlefield Baseball, I'd bet that you'll enjoy Versus also.
While you're looking at Rhuhei Katamura's stuff, check out Azumi too...it's not horror, but it's a great high-kinetic action flick. -
-
Re: Ichi Prequels
Fri, August 3, 2007 - 8:45 PMBattlefiled Baseball and Versus were made by different people.Battlefield Baseball was made by Yamaguchi Yudai and the other movie i was thinking of is called Meatball Machine. i tried to watch it at the Roxie but something went wrong and they had to restart the movie from the beginning and then i fell asleep...(-_-;) i wonder if le video has it..i'd really like to watch the whole thing....
Versus, Azumi, etc was directed by Kitamura Ryuhei and sorry to say, i always go to watch his movies, but i'm never impressed...i try! i do! i really do! i just can't get into them...oh well... but i guess the guy who directed battlefied baseball DID co-write versus.
i cheated and looked it up =b -
-
Re: Ichi Prequels
Sat, August 4, 2007 - 5:51 AMBattlefield Baseball was produced by Kitamura (who introduces the DVD), and they were both written by the same guy...that's why I thought of Versus when you said a zombie film by the same guy...Versus is a zombie film by the same guy. Meatball Machine is an alien invasion movie...sure, there is lots of gore, and it's a fun flick, but no zombies...although, I can see where you would think it was "sort of a zombie movie"...
Meatball Machine is pretty good...certainly worth rewatching so you can see the whole thing. It is on DVD from TLA video...you should be able to find it on Netflix or at any good indie rental place. TLA produces mostly gay stuff, but they've got an excellent horror line.
Speaking of gore from TLA, if you haven't seen EVIL (TO KAKO), GET IT!!! Some of the goriest stuff I've seen in a while...the best horror film to come out of Greece so far. ;) -
-
Re: Ichi Prequels
Sun, August 5, 2007 - 7:28 PMoooh alien invaders! i just remember those things attaching to their heads? something like that, so i thought of it when i heard zombies =b i'll try and rewatch it, if i can find it...
Evil! i wanted to watch it when it came out and then never did!
the only problem with horror movies is that i sometimes get paranoid when i go to sleep. And even though the movie isn't too scary, i'll still have scary thoughts and i'll think i'm going to have nightmares and so i'm going to sleep in a semi-panic already! but i'm trying to get over it so i can watch horror movie after horror movie by myself. i've watched a couple so... as long as it's not a super creepy asian horror movie, i think i can handle it (^-^) hehe.

Fri, August 24, 2007 - 4:29 PMhey, did you know that in the dvd version of wild zero, there's actually a drinking game option in the special features? and a little picture of a beer mug pops up everytime you're suppose to drink? it sounds amazing! i really need to do this!! have you tried it? and there's more to it than just driking at rock n' roll! i never knew!!!! it's almost as if i'm about to start a whole new life!
